The boat dates back to 1870 and will be used to take visitors across the beautiful lake from Puno to the city of Juli. In Juli, visitors will encounter some of the most remarkable and impressive colonial temples of Peru. The President of the Puno region, David Jimenez Sardon, announced that the boat was part of a fleet of ships sailing throughout Lake Titicaca. The Port of Callao will Delight Visitors

Peru’s most important port, Callao, has long enjoyed historical and commercial importance. The port was founded in 1537 to serve as the port of embarkation for merchandise that was to be shipped to Spain.

Located 14 km. from downtown Lima, visitors can stroll past its colonial mansions lined with long and elaborately carved balconies.  They can also take in such sites as the Plaza Galvez, Plaza Grau and the Matriz Church. At the end of Saenz Pena Avenue stands the Real Felipe Fortress, an enormous structure that dates back to 1747 when it was constructed to defend the port from pirates. One can also visit Chucuito, a small fishermen's cove lined with Gothic and neo-Renaissance houses, as well as typical wooden homes painted in bright colors. The La Punta section of Callao is ideal for walking and taking in a refreshing sea breeze. This old quarter, once the summer vacation resort of Lima's aristocracy, features a superb oceanside promenade, pebble beaches and stately homes dating back to the early days of the Republic at the start of the nineteenth century, as well as others from the 1930s-50s. Out at sea lie the islands of San Lorenzo, El Frontón, Cavinzas and Palomino, which can be visited in tours arranged by the Callao Town Hall. Tours set out from the Plaza Grau, near the Real Felipe Fortress.

Callao also boasts four archeological areas that can be visited. For more information click here CALLAO
