Profile of Tourists
from the U.S.

The US is the #1 market of potential tourists not only for Peru, but also for many of the other countries in Latin America. By the end of 2004, there will have been 55 million visitors from the US to these areas.

The study, completed by PromPeru, the Peruvian Tourism and Promotion Board, recommended that Peru work eagerly with alliances, especially with Brazil and Argentina. By working with other countries, Peru will be able to increase tourist visits through effective marketing approaches. The study also identified potential tourists from the United States, which are different from the average American. The average tourist is 48 years old; they are generally married or are in a live-in relationship (75% versus 53% of the population); have a high level of education (79% versus 30%); and have a salary that is more than double the average, explained Carlos Zamorano, the General Director of PromPeru. The complete study as well as more information about tourism in Peru can be found at: www.peru.org.pe
