Bruning Museum in Lambayeque to be Renovated |
The Bruning Museum in Lambayeque, in
northern Peru, will be renovated with a donation from the German
Government. The renovation will take three years and aims to better
accommodate tourists as well as preserve the priceless artifacts.
Enrique Bruning, a German engineer,
collected the items in the Bruning Museum in the late 19th and early 20th
century.
The Peruvian government acquired the
collection in 1925. The museum displays over 1500 priceless pieces
from the Vicus, Moche, Lambayeque, Chimu and Inca cultures. It is
famous for its unrivaled collection of Chimu and Vicus textiles and
ceramics. The museum also boasts several hundred gold and metal objects
including copper funerary masks, ceremonial vases and an exquisite
necklace and other jewels from Moche and Chimu provenance. Pieces from the
Lambayeque culture are also displayed in the museum.
