Everything Ready for Peru Travel Mart 2005 |
Peru has become one of the most attractive tourist
destinations in the world. It is a land rich in culture, archaeology,
nature, adventure, sports, gastronomy, and much more. Its majestic
archeological complexes such as Machu Picchu, Sipán, Kuélap, Chan Chan,
Chavín de Huántar or the Nazca Lines are some of the most visited sites
due to their imposing buildings and enigmatic past. Peru is also one of
the most biodiverse countries in the world: it has 84 out of the 104
existing ecosystems, resulting in an incomparable spot for nature lovers
who will be delighted to visit Manu National Park or Pacaya Samiria
Natural Reserve, for example. These tourist destinations traditionally
related to Peru are enriched with new alternatives today: places of
exceptional beauty that are ideal for practicing adventure sports such as
river rafting, mountain climbing, hang gliding and mountain biking or
sites with a really rich concentration of exotic birds that will marvel
even the most experienced birdwatchers. Peru is also renowned for its
exquisite gastronomy and its different regional variations and the country
offers living tourism experiences enabling visitors to know native
people’s ways of life as well as their rich and ancestral cultures.
The most complete information about Peruvian tourist destinations will be
offered in the Peru Travel Mart 2005, 11th Edition, the most important
tourist fair in the country.
|
It will be held from April 27th to May 1st
simultaneously in Lima and Iquitos, right in the Peruvian Amazon. This
fair is meant for wholesalers and will reunite the most important travel
agencies, tourist operators, hotels and members of the national tourism
world. Don’t miss it! For more information about PTM 2005,

New Alliance to Promote
Lima as Site for Conventions and Events |
The new
strategic alliance between PromPeru and the Conventions and Visitors Board
of Lima was formed when they signed a cooperation agreement with the goal
of developing a campaign that would position Lima internationally as a
center for events and conventions. Alfredo Ferrero, the Minister of
Foreign Trade and Tourism and the President of PromPeru, emphasized that
the agreement will use a coordinated national and international strategy
from both organizations with the goal of showcasing Lima as an excellent
locale in the events and conventions sector.
|
The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) estimates that tourism related to
conventions (composed of activities such as reunions, incentives,
conventions, and exhibitions) generates at least US$280 billion each year
worldwide. The agreement was written by Ludwig Meyer, the President of the
Conventions and Visitors Board of Lima, and Carlos Zamorano, the Director
General of PromPeru. Part of the agreement committed US$50,000 to develop
and produce marketing materials and merchandise that presents Lima as a
premier events and conventions location.

Ecological Buses
in Machu Picchu |
Tourists
visiting Machu Picchu will soon be able to ride from the city of Aguas
Calientes to the Inca citadel in modern buses with panoramic windows to
allow them to take in the magnificent archaeological legacy. The buses are
more environmentally friendly because they have special filters that
purify the gasoline emissions and avoid contamination.
The fleet will be
composed of 22 regular buses and 1 for handicapped visitors and 1 for
authorities and distinguished visitors. To get to Machu Picchu, it is
necessary to take a train to Aguas Calientes and then a 20 minute bus ride
to Machu Picchu along the winding road. Another alternative for more
adventurous people is to do the Inca Trail and reach Machu Picchu through
the Sun Gate, after a three day journey.
